Introduction
Hi there, I’m JL - I’m a software engineer at EAT Club, a startup that delivers food to companies in the Bay Area, LA and soon New York City.
Unsurprisingly, lunch at EAT Club is catered by EAT Club, so I’m blessed with a never-ending supply of new dishes to sample.
I’m also an enthusiastic home cook, mostly making dishes from my weirdo Chinese/Italian/English heritage.
One of my biggest weaknesses as a cook has always been plating. When presented with the opportunity to make a dish look anything other than “home style rustic” I invariably fail.
Yet we now live in the age of Instagram. If the modern maxim: ‘the Camera eats first’, is true, then mine is in a state of permanent emaciation and malnutrition.
This cannot stand. I’ve worked way too hard on my millennial cred to lose that sort of face. What am I supposed to do with my Flat-White Barista-Endorsed Keep-Cup otherwise? They’re terrible for cups of tea.
So here’s my dumb blog challenge: in a determined effort to get less crap at food presentation, I’m going to plate every meal I receive at EAT Club.
Ground Rules:
- All elements of the dish must be incorporated into the plating. Add-Ons or Second Courses are exempted.
- The same plate or bowl must be used for every dish (I got your back, r/wewantplates).
- External garnishes are permissable.
- 2 Photos must be taken, a top down and 1 at any other angle of my choosing.
